Johanna at Vegans of Color sums up her feelings on the easy attack of calling vegans preachy:
I find it frustrating that the dominant ideology – to eat meat, in this case – is not recognized as an ideology, that the status quo is unquestioned & those disagreeing with it can be accused of moralizing while those in line with it are not espousing any moral view at all.
Well said!

Every time I tell someone that I’m vegan, I get the question: Is it by choice?
What meat eater gets asked that question?
When I explain it’s both due to health reasons and by choice, it’s like I’ve passed some kind of test. Sometimes people will say, “Oh well, that’s okay then.” I’ve been attacked by meat eaters for not eating meat, more than I’ve attacked meat eaters for eating meat.
I don’t get it.
